Ironman competition takes place in Brazil since 1982. Since 2001 it takes place in Florianopolis. In 2012 over two thousand athletes took part in the race. It usually takes place at the end of May.
Ironman race consists of 3,8 km swim, 180 km cycling and it is finished with a marathon run (42 km). Competitors have 2h30min to complete the swimming, about 8 hours for the cycling part and have to finish the whole race in maximum of 17 hours.
